Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center

Jacksonville, Florida

Partners in design and healthcare came together to focus on the patient experience.

The physical and operational design of this freestanding outpatient cancer center focuses on the patient and family experience. A joint project between Baptist Health and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, this 332,000-square-foot facility provides comprehensive outpatient oncology diagnostics and treatment. This new facility was designed in a partnership between HKS Architects and 澳门足彩app and utilizes the latest technology available to treat patients.

The facility combines state-of-the-art functionality and technology.

A total of 57 infusion stations, both private and semi-private, are located on the top level of the facility, with beautiful views of the St. Johns River and the surrounding Jacksonville area. Additionally, the project has large outpatient clinics for medical and surgical oncology, two linear accelerators with provision for a third in the future, diagnostic imaging, stat lab, infusion therapy and infusion pharmacy, support services, conference center, faculty offices and work area, and numerous amenities including a cafe, chapel, boutique, and outside courtyard and terraces. The two-story lobby is a marquee space with access to a large, landscaped courtyard that serves as the key organizational element of the building.

Thoughtful art curation creates a serene aesthetic that promotes healing.

The building and site integrate major art pieces throughout as part of the patient healing experience. Our team members served on the Art Selection Committee with leaders of Baptist Health and community art representatives. Artwork procured from local artists provides positive visual distractions and is a part of the patient healing experience. The environmentally friendly space provides access to natural daylight and indoor plants to inspire healing. The courtyard offers natural respite, and a cafe serves nourishment for visitors. A chapel is also a part of the facility for those seeking restoration of spirit. This heroic space inspires a feeling of safe harbor for all who enter with the hope of healing and for the staff and physicians providing care.
